“No te Dejes” Know Your Rights Series / “No te Dejes” introducción

Fear No More! The Trump Administration’s main tactic on immigration is stoking fear. They want to intimidate undocumented people for them to give up their rights without putting up a fight. They have already persuaded a significant segment of Americans to be fearful of migrants. And Mr. Trump and his closest advisors are scared people themselves. Let’s help them out. Let’s liberate everyone from these unfounded fears.

Migrants and their allies cannot defend themselves effectively from a perspective of fear, hatred or anger. We MUST get rid of these sentiments and assert our rights. Ni un paso atrás! Not succumbing to fear requires that we tap into the courage that our community displays every single day. The day laborers, for instance, get up every morning to stand on a sidewalk and offer their labor. They are exposed to unscrupulous employers, to the minutemen, to police, to ice, security guards, white supremacists and the sun and rain. Yet, they overcome these uncertainties and with their forehead high they offer the only thing they possess: their labor. Migrants in general have faced death squads, corruption, gangs, and drug cartels. They have also crossed borders, rivers, and deserts in search for a better life.  This is the courage that Mr. Trump and his advisors are afraid of. Indeed, President Trump has never sacrificed anything.

The first step to remove the fear is knowing and exercising our rights. They want to humiliate and stigmatize our community and make everyone think that undocumented people don’t have rights. The “No te Dejes” series is a tool to help in removing this fear. The series contains 7 Popular Education pamphlets that explain the rights of the undocumented and their allies under different scenarios.
